Introduction

Iqra Islamic School was founded in 1997 to serve the Muslim community in Toronto and its western suburbs. Since its inception, the school has consistently grown and gained a reputation as being one of Ontario’s leading educational institutions that aims at providing academic excellence, discipline, and respect in a moral and safe Islamic environment.

Our expectations for behaviour are patterned after the Ontario Code of Conduct for schools, and the basic principles of Islam. All members of our school community, whether they are students, parents or teachers, have the right to feel and be safe. With this right comes the responsibility to behave as good Muslims and to be accountable for actions that may put at risk the safety of others or oneself.

Objectives of Our School

• To exceed the provincial curriculum set out by the Ministry of Education
• To provide the highest quality of secular education in an Islamic environment
• To focus on core competencies so that students can excel in basics such as Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, The Visual Arts, Physical Education and objective reasoning (i.e. critical and analytical thinking)
• To use the latest proven and effective educational methods and technological aids in achieving the above goals.
• To emphasize Islamic and Quranic studies and provide students with an environment where prayer and reflection are an intrinsic part of each school day.
•  To focus on Huquq Allah, Huquq-al-Ibad and Huquq-an-Nas. That is, provide an environment that allows children to awaken and develop their spirit, mind, body and skills to ultimately earn a good living and foster a healthy concern for society.

Montessori Program

Iqra’s Montessori Program ensures that every child reach his/her full potential in every aspect of life. A Montessori classroom offers freedom for toddlers to participate in various activities that facilitate the child’s social development, emotional growth, physical coordination and cognitive preparation.
